-Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4 we build on our Key Stage 3 knowledge and prepare for the formal GCSE exams. The knowledge and skills already developed will be used to solve problems and, in the process of investigating these problems, new mathematics will be developed and learned.
Full setting continues in year 10 and 11 and pupils are following the Edexcel Linear GCSE course; which is a two-year GCSE course with a final exam in the summer of Year 11. The examination consists of two papers; Paper One is without a calculator, Paper Two is with a calculator. The examinations are on different days and last one-and-three quarter hours each.

Year 10

Term 1:  Construction and loci, linear equations, percentages, graphs, ratio and proportion, transformations, data, inequalities and formula, algebra, decimals and rounding, angles, fractions, using a calculator.

Term 2:  Pythagoras’ theorem and trigonometry, graphs and equations, quadratic and simultaneous equations, area and volume, line diagrams and scatter graphs, indices, standard form and surds, similar shapes, sequences, 3d shapes, graphs, circles, constructions and loci, percentages, equations and inequalities.

Term 3:  Proportion, probability, advanced Pythagoras’ theorem and trigonometry, transformations of functions, circle geometry, algebraic fractions and proof vectors, transformations, ratio and proportion.
